Responding to humanitarian emergencies

As a global health company, we partner with humanitarian aid organizations to provide emergency relief in natural disasters and other humanitarian emergencies. Our support includes both financial contributions and product donations to ensure that those in need receive assistance quickly and effectively.

We have partnered with humanitarian aid organizations such as Direct Relief, Red Cross, Save The Children, the World Health Organization and Aktion Deutschland Hilft. Since 2014, we have also collaborated with the Humanitarian Aid Program of the World Federation of Hemophilia, donating treatments for patients with clotting disorders worldwide.

From 2019 to 2024, Grifols donated medicines worth €2.74 million. In 2024 alone, we provided over 2,800 units of products, used to treat more than 3,245 patients.

Some of the humanitarian crises for which we have provided relief include:

Ukraine War

We worked with the Health Ministry of Ukraine and various organizations to provide aid and medicines (intravenous solutions, albumin, clotting factors and anti-tetanus immunoglobulins) to those affected by the conflict. Additionally, we raised funds through our donor centers in Germany and an employee campaign.

Flash floods in Valencia, Spain

In response to the consequences of the flash floods, we launched an internal donation campaign through the Probitas Foundation, in collaboration with the Spanish Red Cross, and Direct Relief. We also donated our anti-tetanus immunoglobulin and nutritional supplements to hospitals and nursing homes in the region.

Lebanon Crisis

The serious economic crisis in Lebanon caused a general shortage of medicines, including those used to treat hemophilia. To help address this shortage, we donated 2,100 vials of factor VIII, a blood-clotting protein, through Direct Relief to Anera, a local humanitarian aid organization, enabling the treatment of 350 patients with hemophilia for six months.

Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

Thanks to our nearly 20-year partnership with the World Federation of Hemophilia, when Turkey and Syria were hit by devastating earthquakes in February 2023, the Syrian Hemophilia Society was able to ensure the swift delivery of our medicines to patients with bleeding disorders in the affected regions.
